JAIPUR, JUNE 8— A major anti-encroachment drive by the Jaipur Development Authority to widen Nandpuri Road transformed parts of the state capital into a heavily monitored security zone on Monday, following the implementation of a 24-hour digital blackout. The administrative project, designed to alleviate gridlock across the Jagatpura transit district, utilized seven large-scale excavators and specialized debris disposal teams to remove long-standing structural blocks.
The municipal intervention advanced after an initial enforcement wave on May 22 dismantled 134 secondary encroachments along the same railway-adjacent corridor, forcing the clearance of the final remaining sectors.
“Religious bodies and other occupants were subsequently given additional time to comply, but the deadline has now expired,” noted Anand Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of the authority’s Vigilance Wing, detailing the sequence of statutory notices given to local administrations.
The targeted sector road, which handles cross-town traffic heading toward Hare Krishna Marg, will be permanently expanded to its official revenue layout width of 80 feet. Local planners stated the narrow 25-foot passage had previously paralyzed emergency vehicle movement during peak hours.
To counter potential civil unrest, the regional division suspended all 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile data networks, alongside bulk text messaging and primary social media platforms, across dozens of local police jurisdictions.
The direct dismantling of the five regional shrines drew criticism from minority organizations and localized neighborhood unions, who argued that historical structures were being aggressively managed without proper replacement land grants.
“Beneficiaries and local occupants are cooperating in maintaining peace,” counter-stated field security teams, noting that voice calling remained functional to allow essential residential communication during the lockdown. Civil authorities maintained that the complete restoration of the Nandpuri underpass network would fundamentally improve connections to Pradhan Marg, concluding that security barriers would remain intact until all physical debris is cleared from the transit corridor.
