Chandigarh, June 20:  Punjab’s state-owned power utilities have logged nearly 10,000 new structural placements over the past four years as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen public utility infrastructure and generate professional opportunities. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reported that the ongoing recruitment drive has stabilized power corporation operations, with another 3,000 vacant positions scheduled for completion by November 2026. The announcement coincided with the integration of 2,437 apprentice linemen into permanent government service roles.

The incoming technical workforce comprises candidates who completed localized field training programs within the state transmission grids. To facilitate a smooth transition into permanent status, the administration introduced a specialized language verification framework to verify that field staff can efficiently engage with regional consumers. Officials from the power department stated that clear public service delivery remains a foundational requirement for all new personnel.

“CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is of the firm view that providing employment to the youth is essential for channeling their energy towards constructive nation-building and safeguarding them from social evils,” Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema declared. He maintained that systematic state placement drives protect the interests of qualified local candidates. “As a result of the sustained efforts of the government, a total of 9,627 recruitments have been made in PSPCL and PSTCL since April 2022,” he affirmed.

The Minister explained that the overall recruitment metrics include 8,048 direct merit appointments alongside 1,579 positions distributed on compassionate grounds. The administration noted that establishing secure, transparent hiring practices has effectively prevented legal or administrative challenges to recent appointments. The state leadership reiterated that the optimization of technical manpower remains closely linked to delivering uninterrupted utility services to agricultural and residential consumers across the province.
