Amritsar, June 29: Commuters and pilgrims visiting Sri Amritsar Sahib will experience significantly reduced travel times following the official opening of the new Sultanwind Link Road flyover on Sunday. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the 725-meter-long structure, noting that it addresses critical traffic congestion near the Tara Wala Bridge area that had long inconvenienced local residents and external travelers.
The design integrates eco-friendly elements, featuring specialized reinforced cement concrete drains alongside rainwater harvesting wells for sustainable stormwater management. The main structure is accompanied by 5.50-meter-wide service lanes on both sides to facilitate the undisturbed movement of localized neighborhood traffic.
Detailing the fiscal discipline of the project, the Chief Minister said, “Through a transparent system, the government saved the public ₹11.5 crore on this project. Your government is working with honest intentions. Let us all unite to make Punjab more prosperous and take it to even greater heights.”
The state’s agricultural infrastructure has also observed significant shifts, with the Chief Minister affirming that canal water utilization for irrigation has climbed from 22 percent to more than 80 percent under the current administration, lowering the regional dependency on groundwater extraction. Additionally, more than 90 percent of domestic households are currently receiving free electricity, while the agricultural sector is receiving unprecedented daytime power supplies.
Addressing recent political friction, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that opposing political factions have resorted to circulating altered media online after failing to counter the administration’s real-world developmental track record. He declared that these efforts would not disrupt the administration’s focused welfare agenda.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO was present at the launch event to mark the completion of the project alongside other prominent state dignitaries.
