Chandigarh, July 16: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has registered over sixty eight lakh families under its flagship Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana, with Ludhiana emerging as the frontrunner in community participation. Latest data reveals that Ludhiana alone accounts for seven point four lakh beneficiaries, leading a cluster of highly populated districts showing strong performance.
The administrative focus on streamlining the registration process has been central to these outcomes. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur affirmed that the entire government machinery is working collectively to ensure the success of the scheme. The minister declared that dense population structures, active local bodies, and successful public outreach campaigns have naturally expanded the eligible pool in these high-performing zones.
While major hubs like Patiala with five point three lakh, Amritsar with four point nine lakh, and Jalandhar with four point eight lakh show immense progress, smaller districts reflect lower absolute numbers due to their scale. Malerkotla stands at the baseline of the state matrix with one point three lakh registered individuals, influenced heavily by its smaller demographic footprint and fewer eligible households.
The structural success in the top-performing sectors is attributed to extensive field campaigns led by district administrations and grassroots workers. Strong urban-rural migration for employment in cities like Ludhiana and Jalandhar has expanded the local resident base, while higher readiness in documentation like bank accounts has allowed families belonging to economically weaker sections to secure their welfare benefits swiftly.
