Jalandhar, July 20: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann visited the iconic Raizada Hansraj Stadium in Jalandhar to inspect sports infrastructure and oversee preparations for the Under-13 Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship. Announcing a financial sanction of 2.14 crore rupees, the Chief Minister declared that the government is converting four existing outdoor courts into a high-tech indoor facility.
During the stadium visit, the Chief Minister maintained that hosting a national championship after nearly 44 years reflects Punjab’s ongoing sports resurgence. He stated that the tender process for the construction project will begin immediately, with work scheduled to start in August to ensure readiness for the December tournament. The new complex will expand the stadium’s total setup to 10 indoor courts.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann noted that the state’s sports policy aims to engage youth productively while honoring Punjab’s deep athletic heritage. He highlighted the historical role of physical training traditions established in the region and emphasized that state support will continue expanding across all sports disciplines.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government will ensure complete logistical and infrastructural support for the participating athletes and officials during the national tournament. He maintained that upgrading regional facilities remains a top priority to establish Punjab as a premier destination for national sports events.
