Chief Minister Urges Youth to Join Armed Forces at Memorial Ceremony

CHANDIGARH, JULY 27  — Commemorating the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann paid rich floral tributes to fallen soldiers and interacted with military families at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in Chandigarh. The Chief Minister maintained that the sacrifices of Indian soldiers on the icy heights of Kargil remain a source of enduring pride and inspiration for the entire country.

Addressing the gathering alongside veterans and young defense aspirants, the Chief Minister declared that the state remains deeply committed to safeguarding the welfare of ex-servicemen and families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas symbolises the extraordinary courage, heroism and sacrifice displayed by India’s armed forces under the most challenging circumstances. Every Indian is proud of the unparalleled bravery shown by our soldiers during the conflict,” stated Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The Chief Minister noted that over 65 soldiers from Punjab were among the 527 bravehearts who died serving the country during the 1999 conflict. He affirmed that the state government’s financial assistance program of ₹1 crore for families of fallen soldiers serves as a humble recognition of their invaluable service to the nation.

“Punjab’s history is written with countless sacrifices, and nations that honour their history continue to thrive. Our martyrs belong not merely to their families but to the entire nation,” asserted the Chief Minister.

Encouraging cadets from state preparatory institutes to follow in the footsteps of war heroes, Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the government would extend every possible support to help young aspirants realize their dreams of military service. The ceremony concluded with the sounding of the Last Post and a Guard of Honour by the PAP Band.
