Chandigarh, Sept 12: As the Special Intensive Revision drive draws to a close across Punjab, numerous residents continue to visit administrative offices to clear documentation queries regarding their voter entries. The drive has highlighted specific procedural difficulties for married women attempting name updates, voters involved in matrimonial litigation, and migrant populations seeking local electoral inclusion.
Election supervisors in major centers like Ludhiana noted that several applications fall into unverified categories due to missing historical roll details or unlinked family records. For married women lacking updated post-marriage papers, establishing entry details has required attending physical verification sessions with local registration authorities. Similar challenges have affected migrant applicants who were asked to furnish additional ancestral verification documents to validate their submissions.
Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra maintained that field officers and Electoral Registration Officers are actively conducting home verification visits to address special cases, including name modifications and family status disputes. She asserted that the administrative measures are designed to maintain the integrity of the electoral roll while ensuring every eligible citizen’s application is processed according to established election framework standards.
