Gurez, Sept 17: Kabul Gali in the Gurez Valley witnessed fresh snowfall, while widespread rain covered the lower reaches of Kashmir and parts of Jammu, officials affirmed.
The high-altitude pass, sitting at approximately 4,167 metres and connecting Tulail Valley to the Mushkoh Valley in Ladakh, received light to moderate snow, creating a crisp layer over the surrounding terrain. Local authorities confirmed that the weather event caused no significant disruptions to traffic or daily routines, though commuters traveling toward higher elevations were advised to proceed with caution due to slippery conditions.
Across the Kashmir Valley, steady precipitation led to a noticeable decline in temperatures, bringing an early autumn chill to the region. Srinagar registered 8.2 mm of rainfall over a 24-hour period, while key locations including Qazigund, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg recorded precipitation totals ranging between 13 mm and 13.4 mm.
Down in the Jammu division, heavy downpours lashed several districts over the same timeframe. Official reports indicated that Udhampur received the highest rainfall at 117.8 mm, followed closely by Jammu at 112.9 mm and Katra at 45.2 mm. Meteorologists noted that the regional weather activity is expected to keep conditions cooler across higher reaches in the coming days.
