Dharamshala, April 21— BJP national president and Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of returning funds sanctioned by the union government for developmental projects and failing to implement key schemes.
Addressing a press conference, Nadda alleged that Himachal was the only state in the country to return central funds. “This is the most corrupt government of Congress. It’s the height of mismanagement,” he said. “They blame the union government for not releasing funds, but I ask—what money is due from the Centre and not being given?”
Citing specific examples, Nadda said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the development of a Medical Devices Park in Baddi and committed Rs 100 crore for the project, yet the state government returned the funds.
He further pointed to the Bulk Drug Park in Una, a central project with an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore. Of this, Rs 225 crore was released as the first installment two years ago, but the funds remain unused by the state.
Nadda also accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of trying to build a false narrative. “In the 2025–26 financial year alone, Rs 11,806 crore has been sanctioned for Himachal. In 2024–25, Rs 10,681 crore was approved, of which Rs 8,915 crore was released by January,” he said.
According to Nadda, additional central support included Rs 13,285 crore in grants-in-aid, Rs 1,050 crore for record digitisation, and Rs 2,700 crore for railway expansion.
He also flagged the issue of compensation delays for farmers affected by the Bhanupli–Bilaspur railway project. “The money has been released by the Centre, yet farmers await compensation,” he said, adding that the Kisan Credit Card limit had been raised from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, benefiting 10 lakh farmers.
Nadda listed other central contributions: 38,000 houses under PM Awas Yojana, AIIMS and IIM institutions, and Rs 1,782 crore for rain-related disaster relief. He demanded a probe into the distribution of disaster funds.
“If the Chief Minister cannot run the government, he should resign,” Nadda said. “It’s unprecedented in Himachal’s history that the treasury was closed on March 31.”
He also criticized the Congress government for issuing crores worth of advertisements to the National Herald, “a paper that isn’t even published,” and claimed many union-backed health projects like integrated public health laboratories and a National Centre for Disease Control remained unexecuted in the state.
Nadda was in Chamba to review the Aspirational District Programme. “The district has shown improvement on several parameters, though I have pointed out discrepancies to the administration,” he said.
Earlier in the day, BJP leaders from Kangra welcomed Nadda during his visit.
