Chandigarh, July 23: Two individuals with alleged ties to the Congress party have been taken into custody by the Amritsar Rural Police following an attack on a vehicle running under the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Scheme. Media Incharge Baltej Pannu and senior leader Shaminder Singh Khinda disclosed that the suspects, identified as Gurpinder Singh and Baljit Singh Sheesha, targeted the pilgrimage bus without any provocation due to growing political frustration over the scheme’s widespread public approval.
Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the broader conspiracy behind the incident, including allegations that local political figures sought to shield the accused from legal action. AAP leadership affirmed that the state administration will ensure total safety for pilgrims and maintain the uninterrupted delivery of public welfare services.
“The police are investigating who instigated the accused and the larger conspiracy behind the attack. The Bhagwant Mann Government remains committed to continuing the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Scheme and will not allow anyone to disrupt a programme that has brought spiritual fulfilment and happiness to lakhs of Punjabis,” Baltej Pannu affirmed.
The party spokesperson noted that opposition factions have routinely resorted to misdirection, pointing to repeated false narratives circulated during routine medical visits by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He asserted that political rivals are unable to counter the goodwill generated by the state’s governance record as the administration moves toward completing its term.
Highlighting the operational framework, AAP leader Shaminder Singh Khinda noted that the state government assumes full responsibility for all aspects of the journey, offering free transportation, meals, and lodgings. He maintained that the scheme has served as a vital bridge for families previously unable to undertake religious journeys due to financial constraints.
“The Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Scheme was launched to fulfil the wishes of such people,” Shaminder Singh Khinda stated, adding that services will soon expand to major pilgrimage destinations across neighboring states.
