Bankipur, August 3: Political strategist Prashant Kishor maintained a substantial lead in the Bankipur constituency by-election on Monday, pulling ahead by nearly 16,000 votes after the completion of twenty-six out of thirty-one counting rounds. The contest marks Kishor’s initial foray into direct electoral politics under the Jan Suraaj banner, challenging established political parties in Patna.
Voting patterns across the constituency reflected a sharp three-way contest, with official data placing the Jan Suraaj candidate well ahead of traditional party nominees as the final tallying rounds commenced.
Reacting to the electoral numbers, senior Janata Dal (United) leaders and state ministers Shrawon Kumar and Sunil Kumar declared that public commentary should remain measured until counting formally concludes. They asserted that administrative protocols require complete verification of every voting machine before official results are announced.
The constituency, which recorded a voter turnout of 34.30 percent on July 30, went to the polls following the movement of its former sitting legislator to the upper house of Parliament.
While RJD candidate Rekha Gupta stood third in the vote count, Jan Suraaj representatives declared that the voting pattern marks a transformative shift in the state’s political landscape, pointing to steady leads maintained from the opening rounds of counting.
