New Delhi, August 6: Automated bot networks and thousands of fake online profiles were deployed to manipulate algorithm reach and fuel violence during recent protests in central Delhi, according to findings by local law enforcement.
Investigators found that inflammatory videos and controversial posts circulated heavily between July 20 and July 23 were systematically boosted across social platforms to escalate tensions on the ground.
“The content was not organically shared but strategically boosted using automated systems designed to maximize reach,” declared senior police officials, maintaining that foreign-based handles played an active role in pushing provocative narratives.
The probe has expanded to examine organizational funding and leadership roles, with officials preparing legal consultations regarding key office-bearers of the organizing party. Police affirmed that ongoing technical evaluations of tower data and digital trails aim to identify the masterminds behind the coordinated campaign.
