Technical Failure Forces Evacuation of Indian Vessel in Gulf

Rescue Efforts Underway for 14 Mariners Following Breakdown Near Omani Coast

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, June 14: All 14 Indian nationals serving aboard the merchant vessel Virat 1 have been accounted for after their ship suffered an engine failure approximately 80 nautical miles east of Ras Al Hadd. In an official communication, the Indian Embassy in Muscat noted that the crew members successfully transitioned into emergency life rafts after the vessel lost propulsion. The local diplomatic mission affirmed that a coordinated rescue response is actively underway, with Omani rescue teams working alongside commercial ships in the vicinity to guarantee the safe retrieval of the stranded mariners.

While this particular incident was attributed to a mechanical malfunction rather than external hostility, it took place against a backdrop of intense regional security challenges. New Delhi recently expressed severe concern regarding the safety of its seafaring population after multiple commercial tankers carrying Indian crew members came under military fire in adjacent waters. Following those strikes, which resulted in three civilian fatalities, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to deliver a strong diplomatic protest. Indian authorities maintained that the deployment of deadly force against civilian commercial targets compromises international maritime legal frameworks and creates unnecessary hazards for global trade routes.
